Technology to make running better
That is the goal, and the raw material is the results your race already publishes. A race is a promise: everyone covers the same course and the result means the same thing for everyone. What I build exists so that promise is kept.
How
By working with organizers. I audit every race's results for course cutting and for other signs that a result does not reflect the race that was run, and I send what I find to the organizer, for a closer investigation.
From the same public results I produce two more things. For you, a read of what happened on the course, so the next edition is better. For the people who ran, a way to understand their own race, split by split, and to set it against other races.
The method is the same for every race and is published in full.
What I need from you
The audit only works if the data keeps coming. I would rather it came directly from you.
- The data, in a sustainable wayThe results you already publish, released in a form that doesn't depend on a page that can change tomorrow. Fields the public page never shows are welcome, gun time and time of day above all. I do not need the runners' names.
- A direct contactSomeone I send the findings about your race to before they are published, with the same data that goes out.
What you get
- An independent read of your resultsThe cases the method flagged, with the evidence for each. The decision is yours: you hold the mat data and the runner's contact, I hold a reading of the data.
- What the data shows about the raceToday, a congestion map of your course: where the field bunched and what it cost in time, by start wave. New statistics and tools are planned.
- The race stays in conversationIn the days after the start, the people who ran relive the race here and share analyses of their own result from this site. Every result links back to your official results page and to the event's site for future registrations.
What it costs
Nothing on this page costs you, the organizer, anything. That is what keeps the audit independent, and independent means this:
- I don't take money for the auditIf some races paid and others didn't, the ones that didn't would become the races under investigation.
- No review, no veto, no editorial controlYou get the finding before it publishes, but you can't ask for publication to be held.
- Findings publish either wayWhether we work together or not, by the same method and with the same notice every race gets. If you investigate and reach a different conclusion, my number and yours go out together.
Names
I never publish a runner's name. In the analyses and the videos I also publish nothing that could identify one: bib number, finish time, or splits that add up to the finish time. The report you receive has no names either, and the results I hold have no name column. Cases reach you by bib number, and the one who links a number to a person is you.
